June ~ Holding Both
Some months ask us to celebrate. Some months ask us to let go. And sometimes life gently teaches us how to hold both at once.
June arrived wrapped in celebration, but as the weeks unfolded it quietly reminded me that life rarely waits for one chapter to finish before another begins. This month held beautiful adventures, slow mornings, meaningful conversations, women courageously stepping deeper into their dreams, and moments that filled my heart more than I can put into words. It also held unexpected grief, deep reflection and a gentleness that only comes when life asks us to slow down and see what truly matters.
As I sat down to write this month’s editorial, I realised that June wasn’t asking me to choose between joy or sadness, celebration or heartache. It was simply asking me to hold both. To celebrate another year around the sun while honouring the people I love. To continue creating while making space to grieve. To keep believing in beautiful things while acknowledging that difficult seasons are also part of a life well lived.
When I looked back at this image I captured, I realised it had quietly become the image of June. The ocean holds movement and stillness at the very same time. The waves continue to dance while the rocks remain steady beneath them. Neither asks the other to be different. Somehow, together, they create something beautiful. Perhaps that’s what this season has been teaching me too.
As always, thank you for slowing down with me. Whether you’re reading this with a warm cup of tea, curled up on the couch, or finding a quiet moment between the busyness of everyday life, I hope these pages remind you that there is beauty to be found in every season. This month, more than ever, I hope they remind you that even in the hardest chapters, there is still so much worth celebrating.
Welcome to June.
This Month I’m Celebrating
One thing I’m becoming increasingly intentional about is celebrating before moving on to the next thing. For so many years I would quietly tick something off the list, immediately shift my focus to what was next and rarely stop long enough to acknowledge how far I’d come. This month reminded me just how important celebration really is.
June was my birthday month, and from beginning to end it felt like one long celebration. Time away with Andrew, beautiful moments with the boys spoiling me in their own unique way, adventures with girlfriends, quiet lunches, country roads, coastal views and simple moments that filled my cup in ways I didn’t even realise I needed. It reminded me that the most meaningful celebrations are rarely the loudest ones. They’re the ones where we’re fully present enough to notice them.
Back at home. My garage and walk-in pantry got a re~vamp. Inspired by Yvonne at @followingthejoy_ , I found myself emptying shelves, letting go of what no longer belonged and reorganising the little everyday space that quietly supports our family. Every time I open these spaces, I feel a sense of calm. It’s amazing how much peace can come from creating space, both in our homes and within ourselves.
More than anything, though, this month I’m celebrating the women I have the privilege of walking alongside. Watching dreams unfold, witnessing courage in action and celebrating milestones both big and small will never become ordinary to me. One of the greatest gifts of my work is getting to remind women just how far they’ve already come.
I’d love to invite you into this celebration too. What’s something you’re celebrating this month? It doesn’t have to be a big milestone. Sometimes the quiet wins deserve the loudest applause. Share it on your stories and tag me. I’d genuinely love to celebrate alongside you.
Celebration isn’t the finish line. It’s the fuel that keeps us moving forward.
The Energy I’m Living In
A beautiful conversation with a client recently reminded me that sometimes the greatest shifts in our businesses have very little to do with business at all. She shared that things felt hard. She was searching for a way to turn everything around, wondering what strategy she was missing or what she needed to do differently. As I listened, I realised my answer wasn’t really about marketing or momentum. It was about the woman behind the business.
Life will always throw us unexpected chapters. Some will feel exciting, while others will ask more of us than we ever imagined. I’ve certainly experienced both. Over the years I’ve learnt that the strongest businesses aren’t built by women who never experience hard things. They’re built by women who know how to return to themselves when life becomes hard.
This is why my non-negotiables have become exactly that… non-negotiable. Not because life is easy, but because sometimes life isn’t. My morning rituals, time in nature, nourishing food, movement, gratitude, stillness and protecting my energy aren’t things I do when everything is going well. They’re the very things that allow me to meet difficult seasons from a grounded place instead of a fearful one.
Something else I’ve become incredibly intentional about is the language I speak over my life and my business. You’ll rarely hear me speak from scarcity. I genuinely believe beautiful opportunities are always finding me. I believe that everything is unfolding exactly as it’s meant to, even when I can’t yet see the full picture. I welcome miracles. Not because I ignore reality, but because I’ve learnt that hope is a far more powerful place to create from than fear.
Perhaps this is what Flow State has always meant to me. It isn’t about avoiding life’s challenges or pretending everything is perfect. It’s about creating a way of living that allows me to move through every season with clarity, presence and trust. Because at the end of the day, the business doesn’t lead the woman. The woman leads the business. And when she protects herself first, everything she creates has stronger foundations to grow from.
The business doesn’t lead the woman. The woman leads the business.
This Month On The Farm
There is something about winter on the farm that gently reminds me to slow down and notice the quiet miracles that are happening all around me. This month one of those miracles appeared in the most unexpected place. After asking for a few cos lettuce seedlings for my birthday, only weeks later I looked over at our old sandpit and discovered dozens of tiny self-seeded cos lettuces growing where the cubby house once stood. I couldn’t believe it. I carefully picked every single seedling 40 in total, and replanted them into a fresh garden bed, smiling the entire time. It felt like one of those beautiful reminders that life often has a way of giving us exactly what we need, just not always in the way we expect.
The garden has continued to quietly nourish us this season. Sweet mandarins have been picked almost daily, zesty lemons, bright yellow wattle has filled the house, and each afternoon outside has reminded me how much peace I find with my hands picking the nourishing gifts from Mother Nature to the kitchen table. The more time I spend outdoors soaking up the warm sunshine, the more I’m reminded that growth doesn’t ask us to rush. It simply asks us to trust the season we’re in.
Sometimes the greatest miracles arrive quietly, already growing beneath our feet.
Food is my love language.
This Month From The Studio
One of the greatest privileges of this work is that I rarely photograph a family just once. I get to watch little hands become bigger, babies become adventurous little explorers, and families grow one beautiful season at a time. Melissa and Patrick are one of those families. I’ve had the honour of photographing them since they welcomed their very first baby into the world. Since then, we’ve celebrated newborns, growing families, individual milestone portraits, and the beautiful tradition of creating a framed portrait of each child at four years old. Watching these albums slowly fill and these walls become a visual story of their family is something I’ll never take for granted.
This session felt especially meaningful because we wandered through a place that feels like an extension of home. These forest trails are part of our own backyard. They’re the paths I walk most days, winding through Australian bush, into pockets of rainforest and down towards the creek that quietly flows at the back of our property. Over the years they’ve become a place where so many families have laughed, explored and simply been together. It fills me with so much gratitude knowing that a place so special to our own family has also become part of so many other families’ stories.
One of my favourite moments wasn’t even planned. As soon as we arrived, the children asked if we were going to find the little grass buds to flick. Years ago, during one of our very first sessions together, I showed them a simple game my own mum taught me as a little girl. They still remembered it. It made me smile because it reminded me that the moments children remember are rarely the ones we expect. They’re the little traditions, the tiny rituals, and the simple moments of play that somehow stay with them long after the photographs have been taken.
It’s never just about creating beautiful photographs. It’s about creating traditions, preserving memories, and giving families a reason to pause together amongst the busyness of everyday life. To watch Mel and Pat’s family grow over the years, and to know these photographs, albums and framed portraits will become part of their children’s story, is one of the greatest honours of my work. It’s families like these that remind me why I still love picking up my camera after all these years.
The greatest gift I can give a family isn’t a photograph ~ it’s a reason to remember how this season felt.
The Women I Get To Work With ~ Rebecca
When Rebecca invited me into her beautiful store, the plan was simple… photograph the space she had so lovingly created here in the Hawkesbury. We laughed as she reminded me she wasn’t there to be photographed, only the store. I smiled, quietly knowing I had another idea.
As we wandered through the boutique, I gently suggested she slip on one of her beautiful coats and simply walk past the shop window. “Just keep walking nice and quickly to create movement” I said. I stepped outside onto the street, watching her move past the window of the store she had once only imagined. Then we wandered back inside, where she began doing what she does every day ~ straightening a display, carefully rearranging beautiful things, reaching for a favourite bottle of perfume and quietly tending to the little details that make the space feel so welcoming. There was no posing, no pressure and no performance. She was simply being herself, immersed in the business she had lovingly created.
What Rebecca didn’t realise was that I wasn’t photographing the movement anymore. I was photographing her. The woman behind every thoughtful decision, every beautiful detail and every quiet dream that had brought this space to life. Those are the moments I find myself waiting for ~ the ones where a woman forgets the camera is there and simply settles into who she is. That’s where the most beautiful photographs are always found.

What I love most about Rebecca’s story is that our journey together began long before I ever picked up my camera. For quite some time she had quietly followed along behind the scenes, reading my words, watching my stories and dreaming of one day working together. She often tells me she manifested working with me, and I still smile every time she says it. Before we ever planned a branding session, we spent time together inside one of my Vision Intensives, slowing everything down and painting a picture of the business she wanted to create. Together we imagined the feeling, the experience and the space she wanted women to walk into. I remember looking at the vision we had created together and thinking, I can already see it.
Walking into her completed store for the very first time was one of those beautiful full-circle moments I’ll never forget. It felt as though I had stepped straight into one of the images we had imagined together months earlier. The colours, the textures, the feeling… it was all there. Watching a woman take an idea that once existed only in her imagination and patiently bring it to life is one of the greatest privileges of the work I do. Our story didn’t finish there either. Today, Rebecca proudly stocks my Evening Ritual Journal in her beautiful store, and together we’ve hosted two beautiful evenings of intention with her wonderful community. Sharing conversations around vision, gratitude and the quiet rituals that help us intentionally create a life we love has become something incredibly special. I love that what began as a dream to work together has grown into a genuine friendship and an ongoing collaboration.
What inspires me most is that Rebecca’s business itself was born from something she genuinely loved long before it ever became a business. As a young woman she was fascinated by fragrance, spending hours discovering beautiful perfumes and dreaming about the stories they could tell. Over time, that love evolved into something even deeper—a passion for clean, natural living and creating a space where others could experience beautiful products with intention. Today she has built exactly that, and I feel incredibly grateful to have documented another chapter of her journey.

Every woman I photograph reminds me why I still love this work after more than twenty years. Every story is different, every vision deeply personal, and every woman teaches me something new about courage. This month I’m quietly celebrating Rebecca and the beautiful business she has created. It’s women like her who remind me why I believe so deeply in documenting not only where someone is today, but the dreams they’re brave enough to bring to life. I have a feeling there are many more beautiful stories still waiting to be told.
The most beautiful photographs are rarely posed. They’re the ones created in the moment a woman forgets she’s being photographed.
If Rebecca’s story resonated with you, I’d love to invite you to explore my approach to branding photography and discover what’s possible when a vision is given the space to come to life.
What’s Nourishing Me Right Now
This month has gently reminded me that the practices we return to every day are often the ones that carry us through life's hardest seasons. We don't build these rituals because life is always easy. We build them because one day we'll need them. And this month, I needed them more than ever.
Every morning I've found myself returning to my breath. Thirty minutes of intentional stillness, meditation and breathwork has become one of the greatest gifts I can give myself before the day begins. It's amazing how something so simple can shift the way we move through the rest of the day. The breath has always been there. This month, I simply remembered to return to it.
I've also found myself reaching for a beautiful cup of hot cacao each day. Wrapping my hands around a favourite mug, slowing down for a few quiet moments and allowing myself to simply be present has become one of my favourite little winter rituals.
My Winter Hot Cacao
There’s something about choosing a beautiful mug that makes the ritual feel even more special. Every day I find myself wandering over to my little collection, choosing the one that matches how I’m feeling that day. Some are handmade, some are beautiful ceramics, others are delicate glass, but each one reminds me to slow down and savour the moment. It might sound like such a small thing, but I truly believe beauty belongs in our everyday rituals.
This month’s favourite is extra special. It’s a handmade ceramic mug created by my beautiful friend Bella from Frankie Ceramics Studio, with “Be Her Now” gently embossed into the clay. It quietly reminds me of something I speak about often with the women I work alongside. Becoming her isn’t something we wait for one day. It’s a choice we begin making today, one small moment at a time.
You’ll need:
• Milk of your choice
• 2-3 teaspoons Ecuadorian Ceremonial Cacao Rocks
• 1 teaspoon pure maple syrup
Simply add everything to your milk frother (I love my glass Baccarat frother) and let it slowly heat and froth until it’s beautifully thick, creamy and velvety. Pour it into your favourite mug, find somewhere quiet to sit, and enjoy every sip.
Beauty lives in the little rituals we choose to repeat.
Made slowly. Enjoyed slowly.
And every evening, I return to the same place I have for years... my gratitude journal. Long before it became something I shared with the world, it was a practice that quietly held me through my own seasons of life. Three years ago, I turned that ritual into a journal, never imagining that almost five hundred copies would find their way into the hands of women across Australia and beyond. That thought still humbles me.
This month, more than ever, these rituals reminded me that gratitude isn't about pretending life is perfect. It's about choosing to notice the beauty that still exists alongside the hard moments. Looking back, I think that's exactly what June has been teaching me all along.
The smallest rituals often become the strongest foundations.
Until Next Month
As I close another chapter of She Designed a Life She Loved, I’m reminded that life is rarely made up of just one feeling. This month asked me to celebrate, to grieve, to trust, to create, to slow down and to keep showing up with an open heart. Somewhere amongst all of that, I found an even deeper appreciation for this beautifully ordinary life I’m intentionally designing.
Thank you for slowing down with me each month. It means more than you’ll ever know to have you here, quietly walking alongside me through these seasons of life. Whether you’ve been here since the very beginning or this is the first editorial you’ve read, I’m so grateful our paths have crossed.
Until next month, I hope you find something worth celebrating, something worth slowing down for, and a gentle reminder that beautiful things and difficult things can coexist. May you continue to hold both with grace, trust the season you’re in, and keep intentionally designing a life you love.
Until next month… keep designing a life you love.
With love,
Jen 🤎
